Reduce Concrete Permeablity, Fight Cracks, and Stop Leaks with Type K Concrete

Type K Concrete Provides a Cure for Concrete Shrinkage to WTP Designers and Engineers

Improve Concrete Resistance to Sulfate Attack and ASR by Specifying Type K Concrete

Reduce Construction Costs by Designing with Larger Concrete Placements and Reduced Joints and Waterstop

Type K Concrete is Easily Specified - Conforms to ASTM C845. Install per ACI 223

Why Type K?

Water Treatment Plants are unique structures that require a fundamentally different concrete compared to the typical mixes offered by local ready mix concrete producers. When specifying water treatment plant concrete, engineers should carefully consider the effects of concrete shrinkage, sulfate attack, ASR, and constructability.

A small change to the concrete mix design can lead to big gains in terms of long-life durability and reduced installation costs for water treatment plant structures.

In many cases, the right concrete for water treatment structures has proven to be a concrete mix that meets ASTM C845 (Type K concrete). Type K concrete is a durable, shrinkage-compensating concrete that offers many benefits to water treatment plant designers and engineers.

Occasionally an engineer will specify a shrinkage reducing admixture (SRA) in a concrete mix attemting to get the same benefits of Type K. In reality, the SRA's only offer a delay in shrinkage and can't compare to the cost savings and increased durability of Type K.
